/usr/local/etc/LCDd.conf &" The "&" at the end says "once you start let
go of the window that started you and run independently." [ What is the
ampersand called in this context ?... There is some more technical term
for this that I have forgotten...] You should then be able to type more
commands in the shell.
Your "/usr/local/etc/LCDd.conf" says to me that you are likely on a
system different than I use, so how to make LCDd start automatically
after a "make install" will be different.
After starting LCDd, "clients/lcdproc/lcdproc &" should put up a default
client with several new display screens. This simply to test that it is
all working.
To read about how to make a new client to display your own data, cd
doc*/lcdproc-dev, read the README.docbook, and build the
lcdproc-dev.html, and read section 3 there.
In the contrib and clients directories there are some fairly simple
examples of .c and .pl programs that connect to LCDd and put up screens.
