I have committed the patch to CVS.

However I have one little further plea:
The documentation (shuttleVFD.docbook) is a little bit scarce about the
hardware's features.
Would you mind to send in a little additional patch that tells a little about 
the hardware: where it can be found, how it is connected, it's size (in 
characters, peculiarities [special features, ...],....)

That would be really great.
