With a 2.6.XX-kernel you don't need lm_sensors any more. With the
correct options enabled in the kernel (see "Device Drivers -> I²C" and
"Device Drivers -> Hardware Monitoring") you can access the sensors
directly via sysfs. Nevertheless, I don't think you can access the
sensors of the LCD via the kernel.
I started a client that shows 2 Temperatures and 1 Fanspeed on my LCD
but the client is still very specific to my box and won't be very
usable on another machine. Honestly I don't plan to extend it to work
more generally but I could send you the code (TCL, not C; sorry) if
someone wants to have a look at it.
