[Lcdproc] CFontzPacket: open(/dev/ttyUSB0) failed (Permission denied)

Trying to get lcdproc-0.5.0 running on an FC3 system, using a
CrystalFontz CFA-635 on a USB port. I built lcdproc for CFontzPacket and
curses. I placed the CFontzPacket.so and curses.so file
into /usr/lib/lcdproc/ :

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 23314 Jun 9 00:13 CFontzPacket.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13166 Jun 9 00:13 curses.so

Placed LCDd.conf into /etc and configured LCDd.conf to use the drivers
in /usr/lib/lcdproc/ and CFontzPacket.in /etc.

I plugged the display into the USB port, the display lights with the CF
init screen. I check that /dev/ttyUSB0 exists, it does. I try running
LCDd and get the following message:

$ server/LCDd
CFontzPacket: open(/dev/ttyUSB0) failed (Permission denied)
Driver [CFontzPacket] init failed, return code < 0
Could not load driver CFontzPacket
There is no output driver
Critical error while initializing, abort.

I check the permissions of /dev/ttyUSB0:
crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 188, 0 Jun 9 00:34 /dev/ttyUSB0

Since LCDd is running as nobody, tried changing ownership
of /dev/ttyUSB0 to nobody. Still gets the same message

Any ideas? Suggestions?
