I think, there is no need to recompile LCDproc or grapdlcd, is it?

Yepp. That's why I use an old Slackware :-)
I didn't get the 0.5.7-pre versions to compile, too. 
But 0.5.6 is running and is okay for my needs.
However, I needed to switch back and forth between 
different versions of autoconf/make. Irmp3 did not like the versions of 
autofoo LCDproc needed. A bit confusing.
Never give up...
