I don't think this is far-fetched at all. I've been using PalmOrb which
emulates a 20x4 MatrixOrbital display on a Palm Pilot.
I had envisioned support for an emulator under X; one could write a
"driver" which included the actual client "display" showing up as a
pretty X version of the real thing (whatever that might be). I could see
a multiple-device X client with displays for each, and key support.
This would actually help matters then, since you could just fire this up
and anyone could test LCDproc on their system. It also provides a very
NICE way to show Anybody what LCDproc can do, without a real physical
display present.
