No, not completely. It is true for serial devices. My LCD is a serial
one and I simply forgot about the parallel port devices.

Of course you're right! With parallel devices LCDd must be run as root.
But I still believe those who have serial LCDs attached to their
machines should be able to run LCDd the way GFK suggested.
I wouldn't use inetd but xinetd which is a bit safer. But in general
that's the way people who have serial devices could improve security on
their systems a bit.
