I'm using bash for my shell, and the output from 'which echo' is
/bin/echo.  I'm not sure what other prompt you're talking about, but
I'll try to run the command from a perl or php script to see if that
works.  It's just strange that this is the only command that doesn't
work (ie, backlight, auto wrap, does work).

To wwf: I understand your distain for MtxOrb sending their tech problems
here.  In their defense a little, I do plan on writing some clients for
lcdproc in the future, but I need to get these basics down first.  And
thanks to all the people who have helped that didn't have to, as well.
