Yes, the rewrite hopes to fix these issues.

LCDproc really was just written for the Matrix Orbital displays, with
support for the others grafted on later :)

You're completely right about the below complaints, though -- everything
related to actually displaying bar graphs, block characters, etc.,
should be left to the driver to handle, and *shouldn't* be done within
the server's internal logic.

Cruft, cruft everywhere, and not enough free time.
