KISS.
XML will be OVERKILL.
If someone want to play with XML just because it is IN and the HOT TOPIC,
fine.
Those peaple could play with XML on another project.
But does LCDd need XML??? For the protocol? For the config file?
Will it make it easyer to develop LCDd?
Will it make it easyer to develop Clients?
Will it make the program smaller for embeded application?
Will it make the protocol less verbose for saving bandwidth?
Will it give us more time to spend on the core business (Displaying on LCD)?
As an option, someone could write a XML to LCDd translator.

PS: I have the same set of question about C++.
And nothing personal in here, just try to answer those for yourself and
make your own idea.

I'm beginning to have concerns about memory usage too. This thing simply
cannot explode violently into a several-megabyte memory hog.
It looks like libxml doesn't worry much about how much memory it's
chewing on.
Bugger. This would be very cool to get working and keep lean. Then again
I also just realized that if we go with xml for the protocol, anyone who
develops a client will have to have an xml library available and be able
to parse it.
It might be overkill for this application.
