Hi,
your driver works very fast and is stable !
I can't compare the performance with a serial interfaced LCD, because I don't
have one. But I think the parallel port is much faster.
Unfurtunately I have problems with the contrast  of my LCD. When I turn on my
PC I can see a Curser blinking, with high contrast but after initializing the
LCDd, there is almost no contrast and you can hardly read the characters on
the LCD. The Vadj pin is directly connected to the GND on my parallel port. I
don't have any specification for the LCD, but I used it before without any
problems. It's a STN2420.
Maybe someone can help me with this.
