[lcdproc] Wiring questions

Hi,

I am trying to wire my own LCD module (which has a Hitachi HD44780 controller)
to the parallel port, eventually to drive it with LCDproc. This particular
LCD module that I have (manufactured by Data Vision, whose mark is on the PCB)
came with a spec sheet that says the maximum voltage for the backlight (pin 3)
is 13V, which seems to imply that I should feed it 12V.

The following is a wiring diagram that I downloaded from the Net:

  VCC (+5V) O------o-------o--------O Module pin 2
                   | | +
                   / ---
                   \ --- 1uF
                   / | -
                   \ <-----o--------O Module pin 3
                   /
                   \
                   |
  GND O------o----------------O Module pin 1

This diagram tells me that I do not need to feed 12V to the module.

My questions are (for those who have a similar LCD module):

1. Is the above wiring diagram correct?
2. Do you feed 12V to your module for the backlight?
3. What is the resistance in the potentiometer?

Thanks,
Bryan Chan
